Visitors come to Pender Island to, both, relax and get away or to escape into wilderness embarking on an adventure like sailing, signing up a boat charter, scuba diving, road and mountain biking, kayaking and fishing.
- Beach Worshipping. Pender Island has over 20 beach access trails. Some of the trails are short others are longer. The beaches on Pender Island are covered in crushed sea shells, smothered in pebbles mixed with sand. Pender
Island BC trails area marked fairly well with most trails leading to mountain views or beach views. There beaches for romantic walks, picnics, lounging and sun worshipping
enjoying the moment of total relaxation.
- Road Cycling. Pender Island draws allot of cyclist doing the island circuit via the BC Ferries. One
often finds a collection of cyclists itching to cycle the backroads
along the seaside and forested roads on Pender Island coming from Galiano Island, Salt Spring Island or Vancouver Island. Some cycling roads are off the beaten
track for mountain bikers. The best ride for road cyclists is Canal Road to the historic
wooden bridge connecting South Pender Island and North Pender. Pirates Road on the bottom side of Bedwell Harbour is another good road cyclist route rewarding
you with the scenic Wallace Point Trail and the beautiful beach views.
- Hiking and Walking. The selection of hiking and walking trails on Pender Island is good considering the small size of the island. The Pender Island hiking trails range from easy to medium grade trails,
many cover a short distance to beach views. There are over 20 plus beach access
trail heads on Pender Island BC. There are some challenging hikes uphill like Mt. Norman
or the trail leading to the beaches of Shingle
Bay. Beaumont Provincial Marine Park offers shorter interconnecting
trails with beach access.
- Ocean kayaking: The secluded bays and secretive coves
surrounding Pender Island BC offers some of the finest sea kayaking waters around as one of the islands in the southern Gulf Islands group. Kayakers have many
areas to launch kayaks from on Pender Island seeking refuge at some of the main destinations in the area like the nearby Portland and
Prevost Islands, both of which host Provincial Marine Parks. Grab a
lunch, and a kayak and go for a journey filled with exploration from Gulf Island to Gulf Island.
- Boating: Pender Island is in the hub of the Gulf Islands so boating is a natural past time enjoyed by many out here on the west coast. Sailboats, yachts and many assorted types of pleasure motor crafts seek privacy in the waters around Pender Island. Many boaters do the Gulf Island loop from marina to marina, island to island with Pender Island being one of the stops. Boating or renting a charter, a boat trip out to one of the marine park islands
like Prevost or an extended trip out to Princess Margaret
Marine Park is always a great way to see the islands and the wildlife of the area.
- Ocean Fishing: The fishing waters around Pender Island and the rest of the Gulf Islands have always had some good fishing spots for catching a west coast Salmon, Halibut or maybe, some Ling Cod. The
fishing waters off of South Pender Island just a little past Blunden Island and the trolling
waters out at Active Pass off of North Pender Island are known as prime fishing
hot spots. A shot fishing trip to Saturna Island just next door to the east,
of Pender Island are the Java Islands and East Point... yup, more adventure
fishing tales from there too.
- Scuba Diving. The coves and rock ledges offer solitude and
shelter for the friendly Rockfish, Greenlings Sea Pens, colorful Anemones,
Bryozoans, Tubeworms and Cloud Sponges and many Pender Island scuba divers. These animals tend to be friendly
and mind their own business, but then there is the Wolf Eels who just might have a problem
if you invade their space. Scuba Diving around Pender Island BC is best at the Tilly Point Caves which is known as a great diving site. Scuba Diving the caves is almost
picture perfect as you make your way through the cave, going in at one
end and coming out at the other. Tunnel vision per say.
- Wildlife Viewing: Pender Island wildlife opportunities is mainly enjoyed from the shorelines of Pender unless you have a boat or arranged for one. The shoreline views of the wildlife include Bald Eagles, Blue Herons, deer and many more marine birds. The mix of marine birds like Sandpipers,
Oyster Catchers and Sea Gulls flying high over head. Venture by boat
from Pender Island to possibly have a sighting of the local Otters, Minks, Sea Lions, Porpoise or Killer
Whales lavishing life in their natural habitat.
- Golf. Island golfing is even more relaxing then anywhere else. On Pender Island there is no rush and gold is enjoyed at your own pace. Golfing on Pender Island even has time for laughing, joking and some serious golfing. Fooooooooour! The nine hole golf course
features a club house, munches, rentals and carts.
- Frisbee Golf. Too Cool man! Bring a Frisbee and let the disc games begin as there is a free frisbee golf park on Pender Island. The frisbee golf course
is there for the taking. See if your as good at chucking that disc as
you say you are.
