Quadra Island BC: The biggest island of the Discovery Islands Group, Quadra Island is a quiet retreat getaway island with beach front parks, coastline trails and offers an exciting environment for many outdoor enthusiasts.Quadra Island BC is a requested destination for many looking to relax and for many wishing to feel the rush of nature kayaking, sailing, scuba diving, biking and hiking the trail systems.

Discovery Islands Quadra

Quadra Island is 35 Km ( 20 Mi.) of forests, ocean coastlines and marine wildlife experiences like kayaking Desolation Sound. Quadra is “The Gateway to the Discovery Islands” and is located opposite Campbell River BC on Vancouver Island. When arriving at Quathiaski Cove on Quadra via the BC Ferry there is a village centre with common amenities like a grocery store, restaurant, drug store and some unique gift shops. Quathiaski Cove is one of three villages on Quadra. The BC Ferry Terminal is beside a marina busy with large commercial fishing vessels, yachts and sailboats coming and going from exploring the open seas on the west coast.

Heriot Bay, another village, is a getaway cove on the east side of Quadra Island where the BC Ferry ride to Cortes Island is located. Heriot Bay is home to the beautiful ocean walking trails of Rebecca Spit Park, a coffee shop, a grocery store and another marina with a boat launch. Cape Mudge, the third village on Quadra Island is located in the south and is home to the Kwagiulth First Nations people and near the Cape Mudge Lighthouse. In total Quadra Island has approximately 2500+ permanent residence.

Quadra Island and the villages of Quathiaski Cove, Heriot Bay and Cape Mudge are surrounded by many talented Artists that call Quadra Island home. Throughout the backroads and the main road on the island there are signs indicating artist galleries open to the public. Quadra Island has a good selection of comfortable accommodations fitting most budgets. The south end of Quadra is mainly the commercial side while the north island is all wilderness accessed mainly by a dirt road leading to many hiking trails and wilderness view points like Bold Point. A trip out to visit Nature Parks like Main Lake Provincial Park, Small Inlet Marine Park and Octopus Islands Marine Park are sure to capture ones heart through a camera lens. There are many areas to mountain bike and the narrow quiet roads offer good road cycling conditions for all levels of activity and difficulty.

How to get to Quadra Island: Most arrive on Quadra Island by vehicle, bike or by walking onto a BC Ferry located in the ocean community of Campbell River, BC on Vancouver Island. From Campbell RiverQuadra Island, BC is a short 10 -15 minute BC Ferry cruise over to Quathiaski Cove on Quadra Island. From Victoria, BC on Vancouver IslandCampbell River is a 264 Km ( 164 Mi ) long drive north following the coastal roads visiting seaside villages. From the two BC Ferry Terminals in Nanaimo, BC, it is only…153 Km ( 95 mi ) to Campbell River and Quadra Island. The Comox Valley Airport services some major airlines and is only 50 Km (31 Mi) from Quadra Island, BC. Many people arrive also on charter float plane or by boat. From Quadra Island on the east side of the island there is a BC Ferry Terminal that takes you on a 40-50 minute cruise to Cortes Island, BC, Canada.
